I often get asked how I got started photographing mitzvahs, and every time, I find myself sharing your story. It all started with Gwen and Jodi, and Shane and Annie. Two moms, two kids, and the beginning of something I never could have imagined. Your mama convinced me to take a chance on photographing a mitzvah, something I had never done before. It’s become a running joke between your mom and me that I can blame her for all the work I do now. And here we are, ten years and hundreds of mitzvahs later, and it all started with you.

There is so much I remember about that day, but what stands out most is YOU. Your happiness, fun and sparkly personality, radiant smile, and beautiful soul. You made my job so easy and fun, despite the fact that I was figuring it out as I went along. I had no idea how much you would change the direction of my career or how deeply your story would stay with me.

What makes your story even more extraordinary is everything that has happened since. Your mom and family have made sure your name, spirit, and legacy continue to shine. The lives being touched and the incredible work being done in your name to help find a cure for cancer are a testament to how much one beautiful soul can impact this world. Your story continues through every life touched because of you.

My job isn’t always easy, but what a privilege it is to be invited into people’s lives to capture moments they can never get back. Photographs become so much more as time goes on. They become memories we can hold, smiles we can revisit, and little pieces of the people we love that stay with us forever. And that is something I will never take for granted.

Annie, ten years later, I still carry a little piece of you with me. I’m forever grateful your mama took a chance on me, that I got to know and celebrate you, and that I’ve continued capturing memories with your family, including your sister Lainey and your dad Andrew.

I love my job for so many reasons, but getting to work with the same families over the years makes it even more special. I’m now onto 7 of 9 cousins into celebrating this amazing milestone!
